Turbo Diesel Questions
is it common to intercool a turbo diesel engine?
if so what are the expect horsepower gains in a mid 90′s vw jetta? is it a simple bolt on system or is there also of tuning involved? also how much tuning is required to turbo a regular diesel?
You just can bolt on an intercooler, because all it does is cool off the air between the turbocharger and the intake manifold. It could make a 10% difference or so, because it makes the air denser as it cools.
But you probably can not add a turbo to an engine not designed for it. The compression would be too high, and need to be lowered. I have heard of people just adding 2 head gaskets to accomplish that, but it does not seem like a good idea.
